Jackson asks:

What are some very fragrant flowers I can use to make my house smell great over the holidays?

Currently in season, you have a few wonderful options for great smelling flowers.  I would recommend any type of oriental lily (this also includes the commonly know Stargazer lily), a clove-like smelling flower called stock or even large groupings of hydrangea.  Many people don’t realize how wonderful the scent of hydrangea is!  It has a very sweet perfume that will give your home that warm and cozy feel.

Joanna asks:

My wedding was last week and I am left with this beautiful bouquet of flowers! What can I do to preserve them?

There are many companies (including mine) that offer floral preservation of bouquets. The advantage of going with a professional as opposed to attempting it yourself assures that your flowers will turn out perfectly. If you want to take a stab at your own floral preservation, you can always air-dry the bouquet upside down in a cool, dry place for up to 4 weeks. The flowers do not always maintain their shape this way, but you will still have your keepsake. You can also purchase a product called Silica Gel from your local craft store.  There are instructions on the package to tell you how to dry out your flowers.  This method is a little more time consuming but produces a much better result.

Anna Asks:

What are those little packets that florists give you to put in water?

Those packets usually contain a product called “Floralife.”  This products acts as a nutrient enhancer for your cut flowers.  It claims to help them bloom longer and stay fresh for greater periods of time. Always remember to cut the stems of your flowers before placing them in water.  This allows the flowers to begin to drink!
